NOTE: UPSC will allot above said services as per his/ her preference and rank in the above said examinations.
- For General Merit Candidates – 4 + 2 attempts. [Minimum age 21 years & Maximum age 32 years as on 1st August of appearing year ]
- For other Backward Class Candidates – 7 + 2 attempts. [Minimum age 21 years & Maximum age 35 years as on 1st August of appearing year]
- For SC/ST Candidates – No attempts limit [Minimum age 21 years & maximum age 35 years as on 1st August of appearing year]
- ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION: Graduate / under graduate (UPSC will not consider percentage of marks or class in Degree)

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF THREE STAGES:
STAGE I – PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
(Date of Examination June 18th 2017)
It consists of:
1. General Studies -1 100 multiple choice questions (each question carries 2 marks)…200 Marks
Examination timings: Morning 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM i.e. 2 Hours
2. CSAT- 2 80 multiple choice questions (each question carries 2.5 mark) …200 Marks
Examination timings: Morning 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM i.e. 2 Hours
It consists of : Total 9 Papers
1. Essay Paper …. 250 Marks
2. General Studies- 1…. 250 Marks
3. General Studies-2 …. 250 Marks
4. General Studies-3 …. 250 Marks
5. General Studies-4 …. 250 Marks
6. Optional subject –5&6…. 500 marks ( any Optional can be chosen by candidates from the below given list irrespective of their Degree subjects)
Total Marks from Above 7 Subjects …..Total Marks..1750
7. Language Papers (7&8) –Any one Indian Language & English (X Std level) Only Qualifying papers .Marks from language papers will not be added for the Final Ranking.
Note: No Indian language paper for the candidate from North Eastern States of India
INTERVIEW …………..275 Marks
Total Score 1750 +275 = 2025 ( Both Main Examination + Interview)
